Teaching and Learning Programs

Our staff is provided with professional learning opportunities to ensure that we are kept abreast of change in education. Although we have a small staff, we ensure that we take opportunities to work with staff from other schools to gain further knowledge to enhance our teaching and learning programs.  Our school implements Visible Learning and we use Learning goals and Success Criteria in the delivery of our lessons. This ensures that our students know what they are learning and why they are learning it. Our students are given opportunities to become self-directed learners and are provided with effective feedback. Students at Bendemeer PS understand that a good learner is reflective, resourceful, resilient, responsible and reasoning.

Small School Advantage

We are friendly and welcoming. We care about each other, celebrate our talents and achievements and support and encourage each other developing strong staff, student and parent relationships. Our class sizes are smaller, providing a lower teacher-student ratio that supports learning. Our students benefit from individual attention and small group instruction allowing for individualised learning and growth.  At our school every staff member knows every student by name. Being known by your peers and teachers makes a difference in a child's learning and wellbeing. We promote belonging and a sense of unity at Bendemeer PS.

Dedicated and committed staff

Due to our small school staff size our staff knows each other well, shares information, collaborates to solve problems and supports each other. We are a happy, dedicated team who work well together.  We regularly engage in professional learning and willingly take on extra academic, social and extra-curricular programs for the benefit of our students. We work together to promote a strong school culture to ensure our students' wellbeing.

Student social development and leadership

Being a small school allows for increased social and leadership opportunities. All students are encouraged to take on roles and responsibilities in our school. Students often work in peer groups with older students consolidating their own learning through assisting younger peers. Our students mix with older and younger peers both in and out of the classroom. It allows them to develop wonderful peer relationships, develop a greater respect for each other and their teachers. Our students take great pride in our school.

Parent and community involvement

Bendemeer PS has the advantage of strong support from an active and dedicated P&C. They work tirelessly to provide extra opportunities for our students. Our school provides many opportunities for parents and our community to be invited into our school and celebrate the learning and achievements of our students. Our newsletter is distributed throughout the community. We have also worked hard to build a strong working relationship with our local CWA Branch.

Well-resourced learning

Bendemeer PS is extremely well resourced. We are able to provide students with the use of technology on a daily basis by the way of iPads, computers, interactive whiteboards and a touch screen television. Students are often provided with opportunities for learning from specialised teachers across different areas. We also boast a new, well stocked library and sports shed.

Opportunity

Our students are offered numerous opportunities across all areas. With the added advantage of linking with other small schools and having our own bus provided by our P&C we are able to attend a variety of days where students engage with students from other schools in the areas of sport, excursions, cultural and academic days.
