GRIP Leadership Conference

Recount from Tye Farrell

It was the 8th May 2018. I travelled in the car going to the Tamworth War Memorial Hall where the GRIP Leadership conference was being held. Ruby, Jed, Hayley, Jude, and I were going to the conference.
GRIP is all about Leadership. Leaders form years 5 and 6 from lot's of school were attending the event. My day was pretty cool. They transformed us in to leaders. We got to make some noise. We learnt to be a BERRY good leader and then we learnt to make changes. Then we went home my favourite part was the loud noise boys my favourite noise boys event was the PSI hunt we had to find items like the oldest coin. It really good day.

Recount from Jed Curtis

On Tuesday the 8th of May the 5/6 GRIP conference took place. There were the loud noise boys who halfway through each session played games. We also learned about what type of leader we want to be. We had lots of fun. When we took our seats a guy named Ronan told us how we can transform ourselves into good leaders, like Transformers.

He also talked to us about in what ways we can transform. For example attitude, words, actions, heart, or… all four. After we had to decide which one we should improve on the most. It took a lot of time but I summed up on words. It was really fun.

After Ronan's speech the loud noise boys came on stage and they were super funny. They got four volunteers to participated in a competition they called the World's greatest sport's carnival. Caleb and Andy ( the loud noise boys ). Told us that one kid would try guess a sport based on the audiences actions. It was really fun watching them trying to guess the sport. One kid guessed baseball when it was swimming! I couldn't blame him, some kids were making some weird gestures. It was fun anyway.

Next a lady named Seriah talked to us about what kind of leader we should be. Watermelon or strawberry. She suggested strawberry, because it is soft on the outside and on the inside. Although a watermelon is hard on the outside but soft on the inside. They even had a play about it. It was about the school gardener Basil leading a group of kids. (Basil was actually Caleb in disguise ). Basil said he got the name Basil from his Dad. He also told us that when his mother had him, his Dad went to go get her some flowers so he got a nice big bunch of Basil. When his Mum got the Basil she said, this is a beautiful bunch of basil, and this is a beautiful baby. I'm going to call you Basil. I did not see the point of the play but it was still funny.

Later on, Ronan taught us about contributing positive change. He taught us six ways to contribute positive change. One of the ways was go forward with the change. He told us, ‘what's the point of a change if you are not going to go forward with it.' He taught us a fun but valuable lesson.

Finally the loud noise boys came on stage. They had something amazing in store.  It was a dance off! There was the floss. Some 1990 dance moves as well. Jacob wished he was up there, because he would've done the worm. I would've liked to do the moonwalk. It was quite fun.
I had such a good time, I wanted to go back to school and talk to Mrs Magann about making some changes to our already fabulous School.
